smoggy7 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 hi guys can you tell me how the a/c work plz, when you turn the heater switch to 4 for the fast blower then put it down to 2 the a/c light comes on then if i turn it up to 3 or 4 again the a/c goes of so is it only on no-2 that the a/c can be used or should it be able to run on the higher numbers i have tried to push the a/c button to light up on numbers 3& 4 but it dont light up, also my no 1 & 2 on the blower isnt working but 3 and 4 are ok have been told its the resistor how much are these about plz? its on a 1.9 tdi galaxy many thanks smoggy Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 The AC wont fire up if the fan doesnt run! it's to stop the condensor iceing up! and yes it's most likely the resistor pack thats duff, drop the lower glove box and you can get to it, held in place on the side of the heater unit by a Torx or allen key bolt as for the price? gazza007 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Try removing unit & plugs give the connections a clean & re-connect in the first instance. I've had the odd fault like this in the past & cured the problem. You will probably have to remove the radio & cubby hole too. Face plate over A/C controls has 4x torx screws behind. regards Gaz Quote
smoggy7 Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 hi thanks for that but if the fan is running on 3 & 4 shouldnt it work then its only 1&2 thats faulty or because the number 2 isnt working then the a/c wont work at all then is that what your telling me / thanks when you say unit and plugs are you talking about the plugs that the switches are connected to from behind / smoggy Quote
gazza007 Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Yes the plugs at the back, I found that the one at the right hand side (looking from the back) was my culprit. Has a little lever on it to remove. :)Removal instructions Quote
Masked Marauder Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 Has to be the connector I would guess, as the resistor pack is connected directly to the fan so should not effect the aircon light. Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 14, 2006 Report Posted January 14, 2006 From what I can gather off another forum (VW based) if the fans dont work the AC shouldnt operate? mind you this may be only in the case of CC systems? :) Quote
smoggy7 Posted January 14, 2006 Author Report Posted January 14, 2006 hi guys thanks for the comments but if it is the resistor does the a/c work on all 4 settings what i mean is that at the moment the only time the a/c is on is no-2 setting when 3&4 is selected it goes off, what i am trying to explain is that should the a/c when selected work on the higher 3&4 settings or just on number2 setting? as the light comes on when no-2 is selected then goes out when 3&4 is selected is this normal or should it light up when 3&4 settings is selected thanks smoggy Quote
smoggy7 Posted January 15, 2006 Author Report Posted January 15, 2006 hi gazza, well i cleaned all switches and made sure they were a good fitbut still no luck no-1&2 still not blowing so now i will have to look at the resistornot today but when i can get one so thanks for the help will let you know when i get the resisitor smoggy Quote
smoggy7 Posted January 16, 2006 Author Report Posted January 16, 2006 hi guys. ok i phoned fords for the resistor pack this morning and was told that my galaxy hasnt got one? he told me it was something called a regulator? anyway can someone tell me what the resistor is connected to so i can give them an idea of what i am on about talk about being thick lol thanks smoggy smoggy Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 16, 2006 Report Posted January 16, 2006 Funny that as VW call it 'series resistor for vehicles with manual regulated AC' or 'blower control for vehicles with electronically regulated AC' both parts are fixed in the same spot on the heater unit and do the same job  from an earlier post on the topic......... 7M0 959 263 G series resistor for vehicles with manually regulated AC 1J0 907 521 blower control for vehicles with electronically regulated AC Quote
smoggy7 Posted January 17, 2006 Author Report Posted January 17, 2006 hi, ok i phoned the other ford in swansea and found the resistor that i need for the blowers thank god there is someone in fords who knows what i want lol. anyway price Quote
